Happy New Year! After a little seasonal hibernation, I am officially back at the table, dice in hand, notebooks open, and ideas spilling everywhere. 2026 is here, and I’m excited to share what’s ahead.
This year is all about momentum. I’m building on the things I loved working on last year, and giving myself room to experiment, explore, and play.
Where You Can Find Me in 2026
I’m keeping my convention travel close to home this year, focusing on my home turf in the Northeast. You can find me at SnowCon in Orono, ME (this weekend!), PortCon in Portland, ME June 25-28, and (hopefully) PAX Unplugged in Philly, December 4-6.
Physical copies of The Sylvan and Last Call in Arkham will also be available in February at TotalCon in Marlborough, MA, at the Crossroad Games booth (although I won’t be at that one myself).
What I’m Working On
Zine Month & Solo RPG Jams
February is right around the corner, which means Zine Month. I’m currently noodling on a few ideas for Goosepoop Games’ Zine Month Puppies Jam, but I’m also going to be keeping an eye out this year for interesting solo RPG jams that spark something unexpected. These smaller projects are where I get to play with mechanics, tone, and format inside the constraints of a challenge and I think this is where some of my best work originates.
The 365 Mega Dungeon Project
I’m taking on a long-form creative challenge: a 365-room mega dungeon.
My inspiration comes from Dungeon 23 which is an idea originally sparked by Mothership creator, Sean McCoy. The premise is simple: one dungeon room a day for an entire year. I’ll be sharing more about the process and the guidelines I’ve set for myself in an upcoming blog post.
The Oracle’s Stroll
I’m also starting work on my next big solo TTRPG: The Oracle’s Stroll, which I’m aiming to release in Fall 2026. It’s still early days, but this is the project I’m most excited to sink my teeth into this year. More details soon.
Writing About the Process
Alongside my own new games, I’m excited to write more about how these games come together.
This year, I’m planning a series of blog posts focused on my game design process and the nuts and bolts of self‑publishing zine‑style games. I want to dig into the practical side of things, from idea generation to iteration, layout decisions to printing options, and talk about some of my own learned lessons.
My hope is that these posts are useful whether you’re actively designing your own games, thinking about dipping a toe into self‑publishing, or just curious about what happens behind the scenes. Solo RPGs and zines thrive on shared knowledge, and I’m looking forward to contributing more of mine.
Playing More Games (and Talking About Them)
Designing games is only half the fun! I’m also committed to continuing my play journey through the incredible solo RPGs out there.
I’ll be sharing these thoughts and reviews in my Substack newsletter Yarns for One, which goes out the first Monday of each month (January notwithstanding).
The holidays brought me some games I can’t wait to get into: Caught in the Rain by Nicholas Robinia at Ravensridge Press is a solo investigative mystery; Rillem by Ziggy Fox really appeals to my inner Myst fan, and Adept Icarus’ Rue From Ruin has me excited to play a different type of werewolf story.
And let’s not forget some of the 2026 releases that I’m eagerly awaiting: Parable Games’ Ion Heart (hopefully arriving any day now) about decommissioned war mechs exploring the universe, Covens of Midnight by Crossed Paths Press which is right on the edge of the mass production phase of the project; the solo dungeon crawl Lightning Quest by Adventure Squared (which is currently Kickstarting!); and Path of the Hedgewitch by Thirteeth Moon Games which I hope will be in my hands in April.
Here’s to a Creative 2026
I’m really looking forward to this year of making things, probably breaking things, learning from the process, and sharing it all with you along the way. If you’re following along for solo RPG design, play reports, or just to see what happens next in the world of solo RPGs, I’m glad you’re here.
Let’s make 2026 creative, educational, and full of good adventures.
